The Indians have promoted 25-year old lefty starting pitcher Aaron Laffey. Laffey will take over David Huff’s spot in the Tribe’s starting rotation. Laffey pitched in 20 games (0 starts) earlier this season for the Indians and he was 0-1 with a 5.61 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. The Indians hope he’ll be better this time around. He started 4 games in AAA after his demotion and he was 0-1 with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP. Laffey must improve his control if he wants to keep a job in the Indians’ starting rotation as he walked 15 batters in only 20 1/3 innings in AAA. The Indians finally showed mercy on Indians fans by demoting 24-year old lefty swinging 2B Luis Valbuena to AAA. Valbuena played in 49 games for the Indians this season and he was 25 of 151 (.166 avg, .514 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 2 homers and 14 RBIs. Hopefully he won’t be back to Cleveland any time soon as he looks completely lost both at the plate and in the field. The Indians also demoted 26-year old righty reliever Jensen Lewis even though he didn’t deserve it. Lewis has pitched in 20 games (0 starts) for the Indians this season and he is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. Look for him to be back at some point in the near future.
