29-year old righty starting pitcher Anthony Reyes has rejected a minor league assignment from the Cleveland Indians and he has become a free agent. Reyes had Tommy John Surgery in June of 2009 and his recovery did not seem to be going too well. He pitched in 5 games (all starts) in Rookie+AA-ball for the Indians this year on rehab and he was 0-3 with a 16.20 ERA and a 2.40 WHIP. Reyes pitched in 14 games (all starts) in 2008 + 2009 for the Indians and he was 3-2 with a 4.33 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. The Indians won’t likely miss Reyes much as other pitchers have passed him up in the organization.
UPDATE: (11/16/2010) – The Indians have re-signed Reyes to a minor league deal and they will give him a chance to win a job in the starting rotation next spring.
