The Indians have signed 33-year old switch-hitting SS/2B Cristian Guzman to a minor league deal.  He sat out last year due to family problems but he’s back this spring and ready to go.  He played in 104 games with the Nationals & Rangers in 2010 and he was 97 for 365 (.266 avg, .648 OPS) with 48 runs scored, 2 homers, 26 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.  He has now played in 1,406 games in his first 11 years in the majors and he is 1,459 of 5,382 (.271 avg, .690 OPS) with 727 runs scored, 62 homers, 467 RBIs and 125 stolen bases.  Guzman will compete for a backup job in the infield this spring, but he will likely be a longshot.

UPDATE:  (3/28/2012) – The Indians have released Christian Guzman.
