The Cleveland Indians have acquired 31-year old righty swinging SS/2B Mike Aviles and 25-year old righty swinging C/1B/3B Yan Gomes from the Toronto Blue Jays for 27-year old righty reliever Esmil Rogers. Aviles played in 136 games for the Red Sox last year and he was 128 of 512 (.250 avg, .663 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 13 homers, 60 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Aviles has now played in 475 games in his first five years in the majors and he is 488 of 1,761 (.277 avg, .715 OPS) with 229 runs scored, 39 homers, 190 RBIs and 51 stolen bases. Yan Gomes played in 43 games for the Blue Jays last year and he was 20 for 98 (.204 avg, .631 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 4 homers and 13 RBIs. He also played in 79 games in AAA-ball for the Jays last year in which he was 100 of 305 (.328 avg, .938 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 13 homers, 59 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. I have a feeling that the Indians picked up Aviles to deal Asdrubal Cabrera for starting pitching, which would make perfect sense. Esmil Rogers pitched pretty solid for the Indians last year, working in 44 games (0 starts) in which he was 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP.
