The Indians have re-signed 23-year old righty reliever Jose Flores to a minor league deal.  Flores pitched in 42 games (0 starts) in A+AA-ball last year and he was 1-3 with 15 saves, a 2.42 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 163 games (13 starts) in his first six years in the minors and he is 8-19 with 25 saves, a 4.11 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.  Flores will likely start the 2013 in AA or AAA-ball for the Indians.

The Indians have signed 27-year old lefty swinging 2B/3B/OF Nate Spears to a minor league deal.  Spears played in 4 games for the Red Sox last year and he was 0 for 4 with 3 whiffs.  He also played in 108 games in AAA-ball for the Red Sox last year and he was 83 of 346 (.240 avg, .725 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 10 homers, 38 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  Spears has now played in 7 games in his first two years in the majors and he is 0 for 8 (.000 avg, .000 OPS).  Spears was likely signed at the request of Indians’ manager Terry Francona.  Spears will get a shot to win a bench job with the Indians next spring.
