The Indians have placed 32-year old righty starting pitcher Brett Myers on the 15-day disabled list due to a right forearm injury.  Myers has pitched in 4 games (3 starts) for the Indians so far this year and he is 0-3 with a 8.02 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.  Myers has given up 29 hits (10 homers), 5 walks and he has whiffed 12 batters in his first 21 1/3 innings so far this year…..which is pathetic.  27-year old righty Corey Kluber will replace Myers in the rotation.  He has pitched in 2 games (0 starts) for the Indians so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.  The Indians have called up 30-year old righty reliever Fernando Nieve to replace Kluber as the long man in the bullpen.  Nieve has pitched in 3 games (1 start) in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 0-1 with a 1.38 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP.  Nieve last pitched in the majors back in 2010 with the Mets.  He has pitched in 99 games (19 starts) in his first four years in the majors and he is 8-11 with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP.

UPDATE:  (4/22/2013) – The Indians have designated Fernando Nieve for assignment.  He only was with them for one day and he didn’t get to pitch.  The Indians have activated Matt Albers off the restricted list as he was away for the birth of his child.

UPDATE II:  (4/25/2013) – Fernando Nieve has cleared waivers and he has accepted an outright assignment to AAA-ball by the Indians.  He might get another shot later in 2013 for the Indians.
