The Indians have called up 24-year old lefty swinging 3B Lonnie Chisenhall.  He played in 26 games earlier this year for the Tribe and he was 20 for 94 (.213 avg, .604 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 3 homers and 11 RBIs.  He had a problem with swinging at everything as he whiffed 22 times while only walking 3 times for the Indians.  Chisenhall earned his way back by ripping the ball in AAA.  He has played in 27 games in AAA-ball this year for the Indians and he was 41 of 105 (.390 avg, 1.132 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 6 homers, 26 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.  With Nick Swisher out of action for a while due to a shoulder problem, I see Chisenhall playing a lot at 3B with Mark Reynolds moving to 1B.

27-year old righty starting pitcher Corey Kluber is getting hot for the Tribe lately.  In his last 4 starts, Kluber is 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 11 games (9 starts) for the Indians so far this year and he is 4-4 with a 4.08 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.  He has given up 58 hits in 57 1/3 innings so far this year, but he has limited the damage by walking only 12 batters while whiffing 57 of them so far this year.  The Indians need all of the rotation help that they can get right now, so they hope that Kluber keeps up the good work moving forward.

The Indians have signed 32-year old lefty reliever Clay Rapada to a minor league deal and they have sent him to AAA.  Rapada pitched in 10 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Yankees earlier this year and he was 1-0 with 1 save, a 4.66 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP.  He has pitched in 148 games (0 starts) in his first six years in the majors and he is 8-0 with a 4.15 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  Rapada’s best year in the majors came in 2012 with the Yankees when he worked in 70 games (0 starts) in which he was 3-0 with a 2.82 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.  Rapada could get a shot as a lefty specialist later this year for the Tribe if he looks good in AAA-ball first.

The Cleveland Indians have acquired 38-year old righty swinging SS/2B/3B John McDonald from the Pirates for either a player to be named later or cash.  McDonald played in 16 games for the Pirates this year and he was only 2 for 31 (.065 avg, .268 OPS) with 1 RBI.  McDonald has now played in 970 games in his first 15 years in the majors and he is 549 for 2,320 (.237 avg, .603 OPS) with 264 runs scored, 27 homers, 202 RBIs and 33 stolen bases.  McDonald returns to Cleveland, where he played the first six years of his major league career.  McDonald has played in 285 games in his first six years with the Tribe and he is 144 of 623 (.231 avg, .577 OPS) with 76 runs scored, 4 homers, 33 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.  McDonald will do most of his work as a defensive replacement late in games as he is a wizard with the glove.

29-year old righty swinging DH/1B/3B Mark Reynolds had an awesome month in April, but he has had a hard time since May 1st.  Since May 1st, Reynolds has played in 37 games for the Indians in which he is 25 of 126 (.198 avg) with 14 runs scored, 5 homers, 19 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  He has now played in 60 games overall this year for the Tribe and he is 50 for 209 (.239 avg, .782 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 13 homers, 41 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.  This comes as no surprise to me as Reynolds is one of the most streaky hitters in all of baseball.
