Perci Garner is looking good in AA ball for the Cleveland Indians

27-year old righty reliever Perci Garner is looking good in AA-ball for the Cleveland Indians.  Garner has pitched in 19 games (0 starts) in AA-ball for the Tribe so far this year and he is 4-1 with 1 save, a 1.77 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP.  Garner has only given up 28 hits and 7 walks while whiffing 35 batters in his first 40 2/3 innings so far this year, as he has been impressive.  Garner has now pitched in 124 games (74 starts) in his first seven years in the minors and he is 26-25 with 3 saves, a 4.16 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.  It looks like Garner is finally starting to put it all together.

Erik Gonzalez is playing good in AAA for the Cleveland Indians

24-year old righty swinging SS Erik Gonzalez came into this season as the Cleveland Indians‘ #12 prospect according to Baseball America.  Gonzalez has played in 60 games in AAA-ball for the Tribe so far this year and he is 69 of 241 (.286 avg, .732 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 4 homers, 31 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.  Gonzalez has now played in 660 games in his first 8 years in the minors and he is 702 of 2,582 (.272 avg, .702 OPS) with 371 runs scored, 31 homers, 324 RBIs and 94 stolen bases.  Gonzalez could be prime trade bait for the Indians in July, as he is blocked in Cleveland by Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez.

The Cleveland Indians activate Joba Chamberlain

The Cleveland Indians have activated 30-year old righty reliever Joba Chamberlain from the D.L.  He has pitched in 15 games (0 starts) for the Indians so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 2.40 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP.  The Indians have sent 25-year old righty starting pitcher Cody Anderson back to AAA to open up a spot on the pitching staff for Chamberlain.  Anderson has pitched in 9 games (8 starts) so far this year for the Indians and he is 1-4 with a 7.48 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.  Anderson looks nothing like he did as a rookie last year.  Anderson pitched in 15 games (all starts) for the Indians last year and he was 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP.

The Cleveland Indians release Jarrett Grube

The Cleveland Indians have released 34-year old righty starter/reliever Jarrett Grube.  Grube pitched in 11 games (7 starts) in AAA-ball for the Indians this year and he was 0-3 with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 361 games (148 starts) in his first 13 years in the minors and he is 70-56 with 2 saves, a 4.38 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.  Grube’s only major league experience came back in 2014 for the Los Angeles Angels.  He pitched in 1 game out of the pen for the Angels and he worked 2/3 of an inning in which he gave up 1 hit (it was a homer) and 1 run (it was earned).  Grube likely is looking for a shot to pitch somewhere in Asia.  This is no loss for the Tribe moving forward.

The Cleveland Indians send Austin Adams to AAA

The Cleveland Indians have sent 29-year old righty reliever Austin Adams to AAA.  Adams pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Indians this so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 2.35 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  He has given up 6 hits and 3 walks while whiffing 12 batters in his first 6 2/3 innings for the Tribe.  Adams has now pitched in 41 games (0 starts) in his first three years with the Tribe and he is 2-0 with 1 save, a 4.31 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.  Adams will likely get another shot later this year for the Indians.
