The Cleveland Indians re-sign Guillermo Quiroz

The Cleveland Indians have re-signed 34-year old righty swinging catcher Guillermo Quiroz to a minor league deal.  Quiroz played in 75 games in AAA-ball for the Tribe last year and he was 72 of 273 (.264 avg, .761 OPS) with 41 runs scored, 11 homers and 38 RBI.  He last played in the show back in 2014 for the Giants.  Quiroz has now played in 148 games in his first 10 years in the show and he is 69 of 346 (.199 avg, .533 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 3 homers, 34 RBI and 1 stolen base.  This was a depth signing for the Tribe and little more.

The Cleveland Indians DFA T.J. House

The Cleveland Indians have designated 26-year old lefty starter/reliever T.J. House for assignment.  House pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Tribe this year and he was 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA and a 2.25 WHIP.  House also pitched in 33 games (12 starts) in AAA-ball for the Tribe this year and he was 5-3 with 1 save, a 3.98 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP.  House pitched in 27 games (22 starts) in his three years with the Tribe and he was 5-7 with a 4.44 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP.  This isn’t much of a loss for the Tribe moving forward.

UPDATE:  (9/28/2016) – The Indians have outrighted T.J. House to AAA.

The Cleveland Indians call up Perci Garner

The Cleveland Indians have called up 27-year old righty reliever Perci Garner for his first shot at pitching in the show.  Garner pitched in 41 games (0 starts) in AA+AAA-ball so far this year and he is 7-1 with 7 saves, a 1.83 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.  Garner has given up 52 hits and 22 walks while whiffing 70 batters in his 78 2/3 innings in the minors this year.  To make room for Garner in the bullpen, the Tribe has sent 25-year old righty reliever Shawn Armstrong to A-ball.  Armstrong has pitched in 3 games (0 starts) for the Tribe so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  He has also pitched in 47 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Indians this year and he was 3-1 with 9 saves, a 1.84 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.  Armstrong will probably be called back up on Monday, when the A-ball team he is pitching for season ends.

The Cleveland Indians release Tommy Hunter

The Cleveland Indians have released 30-year old righty reliever Tommy Hunter.  Hunter pitched in 21 games (0 starts) for the Indians this year and he was 2-2 with a 3.74 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.  He also pitched in 14 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Tribe this year in which he was 2-1 with 1 save, a 3.00 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP.  Hunter has been banged up all year long for the Indians, so seeing them let him go isn’t much of a surprise.

The Cleveland Indians activate Jeff Manship from the D.L.

The Cleveland Indians have activated 31-year old righty reliever Jeff Manship from the D.L.  Manship has pitched in 38 games (0 starts) for the Indians so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP.  He has given up 30 hits (5 homers) and 13 walks while whiffing 21 batters in his first 30 1/3 innings for the Tribe this year.  To make room on the pitching staff for Manship, the Indians have sent 26-year old lefty reliever/starter T.J. House to AAA.  House has pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Indians so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA and a 2.25 WHIP.
