The Cleveland Indians will need to call up a starting pitcher next week to replace Cody Anderson, who was sent to AAA today.  I think it will be 25-year old righty Mike Clevinger, but the Indians could choose T.J. House instead.  Only time will tell.  Clevinger came into this season as the Indians’ #7 prospect according to Baseball America.  He looked really good in Spring Training for the Indians and it has carried over to the regular season in AAA-ball.  Clevinger has pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Indians in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 3.20 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 68 games (63 starts) in his first four years in the minors and he is 16-14 with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.  Clevinger has yet to pitch in the show.  26-year old lefty T.J. House offers more experience.  He has pitched in 3 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Indians so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 4.80 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP.  House has pitched in 23 games (22 starts) in his first two years with the Indians and he is 5-7 with a 4.46 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP.

The Cleveland Indians have sent Cody Anderson to AAA

The Cleveland Indians have sent 25-year old righty starting pitcher Cody Anderson to AAA.  Anderson started 4 games for the Indians this year and he was 0-1 with a 7.65 ERA and a 1.90 WHIP.  He gave up 34 hits (6 homers) and 4 walks while whiffing 14 batters in 20 innings of work, so he got hit really hard!  It comes as a little bit of a surprise as Anderson looked great in his first taste of the show with the Indians in 2015, as he worked in 15 games (all starts) in which he was 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP.  The Indians have called up 24-year old lefty reliever Kyle Crockett to replace Anderson on the pitching staff.  Crockett pitched in 6 games in AAA-ball out of the pen this year and he is 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP.  Crockett has now pitched in 74 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Tribe and he is 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.  He will give the Indians a second lefty in the pen for the first time in 2016.

The Cleveland Indians activate Michael Brantley from the D.L.

The Cleveland Indians have activated 28-year old lefty swinging LF Michael Brantley from the D.L.  Brantley played in 7 games in AA+AAA-ball on a rehab assignment this year and he is 5 for 21 (.238 avg, .653 OPS) with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs.  Brantley has played in 807 games in his first seven years with the Indians and he is 909 of 3,108 (.292 avg, .772 OPS) with 402 runs scored, 61 homers, 393 RBIs and 94 stolen bases.  Brantley gives the Indians’ offense more thump moving forward!

Kyle Crockett is looking good in the minors for the Cleveland Indians

24-year old lefty reliever Kyle Crockett is looking good in the minors for the Cleveland Indians.  He has pitched in 4 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Tribe so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.00 WHIP.  Crockett has pitched in 74 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Indians and he is 4-1 with a 2.64 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.  If Ross Detwiler continues to struggle for the Indians or they decide they want a second lefty in the pen, they could call Crockett up.

The Cleveland Indians call up Lonnie Chisenhall

The Cleveland Indians have called up 27-year old lefty swinging OF/3B Lonnie Chisenhall.  Chisenhall started the season on the D.L. for the Tribe.  He played in 7 games in AA+AAA-ball on a rehab assignment and he was only 2 for 23 (.087 avg, .337 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 0 homers and 4 RBIs.  He has played in 451 games in his first five years with the Indians and he is 373 of 1,454 (.257 avg, .713 OPS) with 173 runs scored, 43 homers, 177 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.  The Indians have sent 29-year old righty swinging outfielder Collin Cowgill to AAA to make room on the active roster for Chisenhall.  Cowgill has played in 9 games for the Tribe this year and he is only 1 for 12 (.083 avg, .298 OPS) with 7 whiffs!  He has now played in 317 games in his first six years in the show and he is 161 of 689 (.234 avg, .627 OPS) with 83 runs scored, 12 homers, 57 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.  Cowgill could get back to Cleveland at some point in 2016, if he plays well in AAA.
